Why Your MSPs Sales & Marketing Seems "Broken"

75% of MSPs tell me they "need more or better leads".

Close to 100% of them tell me they have tried marketing agencies that failed them. And not just a slight failure, but I'm talking tens and thousands of dollars down the drain for no result.

If you were approached by a stock broker who's pitch was, "Buy 50 of these stocks at $1,000 per share - and get negative $50,000 return!" - it's obvious you would look at him like an insane person.

So why does it seem that this marketing agency approach is utterly "busted"?

And how come you can't seem to get traction yourself?

I think I've found the answer, and it may not be what you expect (just like any good truth is at the bottom of a pile of mystery).

Your Amazon Package

When you order your next cool thing from amazon, do you have any thought of "well, we'll see, I may not get the package at the end of the day but it's a risk I'm willing to take".

Of course not.

And you don't even have a thought of what it takes for that package to arrive at the door. You just know it will come.

When breaking down the cycle it goes from Online Order -> Order Notification -> Product Retrieval -> Product Packaging -> Shipment Prep -> Shipment -> Delivery. And in between these things are tons of little things people have to do right.

But your certainty that it will come lies in the fact that Amazon & their logistics has simply figured out the right actions to get it to arrive and has put a system in place to do so.

So let me ask you this - why should sales or marketing be any different?

The end results of sales or marketing is revenue - and it starts with catching a person's attention. But just like the Amazon package, there is a whole slew of things that must happen in between for that lead to arrive at your door and then be converted for revenue

The Answer Is In the Pattern

The reason why marketing agencies (and your MSP) fails is the correct pattern is not put in place get the result.

Marketing and sales requires "block and tackling", a phrase a business partner of mine uses, and he couldn't be more right.

So when you try one or two of:

a) SDRs cold calling

b) Direct Mail

c) Paid Ads

d) Linkedin Outbound

e) etc, etc, etc

You are trying one piece of the overall scheme. It's not that these agencies (or yourself) wants to fail or wants to scam you necessarily, it's just that they are playing the wrong game.
